Eliza,

Hi, I won't pretend to have gathered any of the following information myself. This was all sent to me by Beryl Metherell

In summary, the name (yes they're the same) appears to come from the old english Middel Hyll i.e. Middle Hill. The people taking their name from the place. There have been several Middle Hills in the Devon/Cornwall area all with varying spellings.

I'm sure that if you post more details of your family tree someone will be able to help as the name is so distinctive.

Good Luck

Brandon
