I found the Messier family of yours on rootsweb and followed it back with my own family tree to see if we share a common ancestor. I found that our families trees intersect at a David Messier b.1615 d.1687 & Margeurite Barr b. 1619 – d.?. Its looking to me that Paul would be a very distant cousin to you.

David’s parents and his grandparents:

Jehan Le Messier b. Jan. 17, 1579…d.Dec. 6, 1658
Francoise Haudricourt b. abt. 1580

Marin Messier b.? d. ?
Jehanne Napveu…or Japveu
