Hi Susan:
Thank you for replying to my email regarding the Ferry/Chaffee connection. I have been unable to find the death records for Lucy Ferry's first husband, Seth Chaffee.Since my ggg grandfather, Reuben Chaffee was born in 1797 and his half sister Sally Messenger was born in 1808, his father must have died in the interem.
Reuben was born in Pompey NY, but enlisted in the War of 1812 from Madison NY if I recall correctly. His step-father, Ashbel Messenger took care of him when he fell ill at Sackett's Harbor NY.Later, Reuben accompanied his step father and other family when they relocated to Lake CO Ohio.
The Chaffee's finally settled in Geauga Co, OH.My gg grandparents(Peter Basquin and Fidelia Sally Chaffee)moved west to Kansas and my g grandmother and grandparents settled in Calif.
I would be very interested in any Ferry info on Lucy's parents and siblings. I haven't been able to trace back the Chaffee line from Pompey NY, but my mother always believed they were out of CT, I think the Killingly area.I have not looked at my records lately, so am a little sketchy on the details.
If you have questions, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Mary Flaherty
