Northumberland/Union/Snyder County, PA Mertz/Martz Family
If you are researching anyone of the Mertz/Martz family who lived in Northumberland County, PA and/or Union or Snyder County – especially prior to 1850 – I believe you will find the information on my web site helpful.

I believe many other sources – e.g. J L Floyd, Joseph Meiser, Allen David Tallman -- are wrong when they trace the ancestry of certain Northumberland County pioneer Mertzes to the John Henry Mertz family of Rockland Township, Berks County.John Henry founded Mertz Church.John Henry had sons named Jacob and Philip. But John Henry’s sons did not come to Northumberland County.
All of the pioneer Mertzes of Northumberland County trace their ancestry to the John David Mertz family of Longswamp Township, Berks County.John David had grandsons named Jacob (two of them), David, Peter, Nicholas, Conrad and Philip – they all are present in the records of Longswamp Reformed Church until 1785 after which there is not a single mention of them there because they all migrated to Northumberland County between 1785 and 1790 and they are the six Mertzes listed in the 1790 Census of Northumberland County.,
