CHARLES ALLEN MERRYMAN of Cumberland County VA married Nancy
Minter, daughter of John and Martha Minter on Sept 22, 1834. It is possible
this was a second marriage for Charles. Charles was probably born in the
1790s...census records contain conflicting information.
Charles and Nancy Merryman are my ggggrandparents. I can trace my line
back to Charles, but his parentage is a mystery. After scouring through many
Cumberland County Court records, I feel certain he is a descendant of John
and Elizabeth Merryman who moved from Henrico in the 1730s.
My best guess is that he is a grandson of Jesse Merryman, son of John and Elizabeth. Jesse had a very large family and sons Edward, John T. and William are in the correct time frame to be his father. Several court records connect Charles Allen to Jesse's family: one in 1788 and another in 1812.
These dates add to the confusion.
Can any of you Merryman researchers shed light on this mystery?
I have lots of Merryman information that I will be glad to share.
