Charles Wetzel Merritt, adopted son of Jacob and Elizabeth Merritt. His birth mother was MARY FANNIN who later married William ADKINS. Charles was born Sept. 20, 1882. He died in Huntington, WV. March 18, 1960. In his obituary are listed the children of Mary FANNIN ADKINS, 3 brothers, ADAM who lived in Huntington, WV. Noal and Richard ADKINS who lived in Raceland, KY. Two sisters, ADA ADKINS AKERS and Sofa ADKINS DINKINS also of Raceland, KY.
Charles W. Merritt is listed on the birth certificate of Ray (Buster) Merritt as being his father. Ray never knew his father although it appears he never lived more than 75 miles from Ray at any given time. Ray died Sept. 28, 1970. Is there someone out there who can verify WHO was the father of Charles Wetzel Merritt? There are 7 wonderful grand children who would like closeure as to who we are.
