Merritt Family Boston, MA and Nova Scotia 1800's

I am new to this and looking for some help. Here is what I know so far. My father: Frank L. Merritt b. 1929 in East Boston, MA died 1995
Grandfather: William Joseph Merritt b. 1901 d. 1951 in MA and he lived in East Boston
Great-grandfather: Frank L. Merritt b. 1869 in MA d. 1935 in MA and he lived in East Boston
Great-great-grandfather: John I. Merritt b. 1835 in Nova Scotia and also lived in East Boston as early as 1870 per 1870 census, his wife Catherine was born in Ireland and his father was born in Nova Scotia and his mother was born in Ireland, both of Catherine's parents were born in Ireland.

So, that is what I have so far. Any help, tips or information would be greatly appreciated.
