It takes a little time to dig it out of Douglas' book, but here,s what he has on Shubael:
"Shubael(5), son of Thomas (4), married Letitia, daughter ofSimmons. He was an outlaw during the Revolution and was greatly feared by all.It is said that he robbed and killed several persons and after the war was shot by the son of one of his victims. Some say that he was killed at White Plains and buried in the south side of Mr. Holliday's orchard.Others call him a Loyalist of Stamford, who was shot at Greenwich.Jedidiah P.Merritt of St. Catherines says he was living in his father's house and was shot at the head of the stairs by some men after the war.
Children (?)" p 73
When I have a minute I'll look for Ekekial (Ezekial?) and info on Merritts on both sides of the revolutionary war. The logic was that if you had a son on each side you got to keep the farm no matter who won.
