Hi Diane! Thank you for responding to my message. Charles M. Merriman was born in 1818 in N.Y. and married into an old French Canadian family in Michigan. His wife was Paulina Burbank. Charles first appeared on the 1840 census in Dearborn Township and he lived in Ecorse Township until 1858 when he bought his farm in Wayne Village at Merriman and Michigan Ave. At the time he came to Michigan, the Benoni Merrimans and cousins came as well. They settled in Jackson. I thought since they cam in families, maybe he came with them and his parents stayed behind. I wish I knew who his parents or siblings were or what town he came from in N.Y. Since he was born in 1818, I wondered if they moved to N.Y. from the east coast. Any help would be very appreciated since I have hit my brick wall. Thanks again for responding!
Cheryl
