WILBUR H. MERRIL CIVIL WAR LETTERS !!
Posted by: Charlotte Ludema (ID *****7686) Date: July 09, 2009 at 13:14:11

Hello. At auction, I have acquired twenty letters written by Wilbur Merril during his Civil War years to his parents. They are in a small box with envelopes and are a treasure. I am looking for people who have him in their ancestry to see if there is anyone who would be interested in purchasing them from me. I know I would want to know if anyone had letters that my ancestors had written! Perhaps you or your relatives would be interested. I will be writing to others and am hoping someone will be interested in owning them. Please be sure to ask your cousins and other relatives. Let me know if you're interested.

Please let me know before July 31, 2009 if you or a relative have an interest in purchasing these letters. E-mail if you have more questions.
If you're interested, please send us an offer.

I thought you might like to read an excerpt from one of the letters:

"...Well now I must tell you something about the battle. The fighting continued 3 or 4 days. Saturday and Sunday were the 2 hottest days of the fight. It raged very hard and the 11th corps broke and caused pretty sad havock. They did not fight worth a snap. The 159 regt are in that corps. They lost about 1/2 of their regt. Them that have seen them tell me that... (many)... are missing, perhaps taken prisoners. I hope nothing worse. You need not say anything about it for they may turn up yet. Perhaps they have got around to their regt by this time..."

It's a great collection.
They will be available until July 31, 2009
