Thank you, Evan, for posting this. Knew that Lemuel & Cynthia came to IL but didn't know where. So did Juliet Merrifield Read, her sister.
Cynthia was not a "neice of Daniel Boone". Rachael Boone, d/o Samuel Boone JR & Jane Hughes (d/o John Hughes & a Boone). Samuel Boone Jr, s/o Samuel Boone SR, brother of Squire Boone SR (f/o of Daniel & Squire Boone Jr (lived in Shelby Co, KY). Both Squire Boone Jr & Samuel Boone Jr had wives of Jane--Squire Jr his wife known as "Big Jane" and Samuel Jr, his wife known as "Little Jane" to seperate them. Samuel Boone Jr was a flintlock maker in Va during the Rev War. He had to pay his employees in gold & the C. Army paid him in script. He lost everything. So Squire Boone Jr & others Boone & others went to Va to bring Samuel Boone Jr and his family to Ky (was Jefferson/Nelson Co at that time-Shelby formed in 1792). Samuel Boone Jr died 1804/5 in Shelby Co, Ky ("Boone Family" by Spraker, which in my library).
Alexander Merrifield & Rachael Boone m in Jefferson Co, Ky 1787. Alexander is in the 1785 titables of Nelson Co in 1785, 1785, went to Jefferson Co in 1786 & 1787, in Nelson Co 1788 & then went back to Jefferson Co until 1792 when Shelby Co was formed. Then I lose Alexander. Know he was in Williamson Co, Tn in 1806 tax list & his son Thomas MARYFIELD m Miriah Leshorn in 1806. Then Alexander appears in Hardin Co, Ky in 1809 when his dau Jane m Wm. C. Middleton. Alexander is in Hardin Co Cens & tax list until 1840. In 1843 LaRue Co was formed & being Alexander is around Hodgenville--he is now in LaRue Co. The "Mather's Papers"(by O. M. Mather) says "Alexander Merrifield sold out in 1844 & went to Bloomfield when his SON lives (not SONS)". The land records of Hardin or LaRue doesn't show the "sell out".The LaRue Co land records shows Fielding Merrifield (Alex's son), Samuel Merrifield (my GGF & heirs) & James Merrifield (bro to Samuel & heirs)are the only one who sold land in LaRue Co. Samuel & James Merrifield were s/o John & Anne Rood/Rude Merrifield that m 1811 Hardin Co. John d 1844 LaRue Co & Anne d 1846/7 LaRue Co (tax lists).
Rachael Boone Merrifield d 1836 & buried at Bloomfield. Alexander m Mrs Jane Turner 1837 Hardin Co (mgs). James Merrifield m Sophrona Barnett 1848 LaRue Co. Sophrona, d/o James & Susan Turner Barnett. Don't know the relationship between Susan Turner Barnett & Mrs Jane Turner.
My Samuel Merrifield sold 300 ac of land in LaRue Co after it was formed. Can't find where it was bought or by whom. The 300 ac was part of the 10,000 ac survey of Thomas Middleton, recorded in Jefferson Co. in 1782. So maybe the land record in Jefferson Co, too. Not in Hardin (1793)or Nelson (1785).
In 1819 Hardin Co land record. John Merrifield JR and Sarah/Sally (Welch/Welsh) sold 75 ac of land to Alexander Merrifield with wits Sam'l Merrifield, Fielding Merrifield, Lemuel Smith & James Redman.Samuel & Fielding were s/o & both married d/o of John & Elizabeth Bloomer Bemiss. Lemuel Smith m Cynthia Merrifield, d/o of Alexander. James Redman was jailor in LaRue Co, a good friend of Alex'r & lived in a house next to the jail owned by Alex'r, his wife was Nancy. Don't know the relationship of this James Redman & James Redman (m Rhuamy Merrifield, d/o of my Samuel). Have several Redmans in my trees but don't know if they are related!!!
2 John Merrifield, aged with 5 years of each other, both married in Hardin Co (1811, 1816). One John (wife Anne) is next to Alexander in Hardin Co from 1815 tax list & 1820-1840 Hardin Co., d in LaRue Co 1844. One John (wife Sally) sold out to Alex'r, moved to Bloomfield, ended up in Dallas Co, Tx where he died (has 3 wives). John JR doesn't mean son of John (bro/uncle/o Alex'r)--but MAY mean John SR (wife Anne) to John JR (wife Sally) in a family group. Wonder if the two John had another name but elected to use John????
See--for every question that is answered--poses more qestions that begs to be answered!!
