Jno & Elizabeth Merrifield, Dallas Co, TX US Census, 1860, Precinct #2, Family # 729-729. The Merrifields had among their children: Catherine single at home, age 20. Jno Merrifield also had one James Smith from TN, age 25, working as a farm laborer.
My great-great grandfather James M Smith from Bledsoe County, TN is in the US 1870 Census with a wife named Catherine ?. I know nothing more, beyond 1870, the trail is cold.Perhaps the Catherine Merrifield from TX and the James Smith from TN married and returned to TN, if so then these two could be (could be) my great-great grandparents.
