Hello.
Gaetano Merola had 11 brothers and sisters. All of them had the same mother. I am told her name was Henrietta - but I am still verifying this - most likely that was the "American version" of her Italian name. I am looking this up too...
Anyway, these children had 2 different fathers - one I believe passed away, (however I am not certain of this either)and then "Henrietta" remarried.
I am certain of a few of these "children":
Ulisse born 1867
Gaetano born 1881
Emilia
Enrichetta
Giacoma
I'm sure I will find more of them - but that's all for now.
Where are these children from? Naples, or I should say around Naples, for I am not certain of the town or exact provence as it were.
Where did they live? I believe most of them in NY, at least in the early years... perhaps as they were married they moved across the country. Gaetano eventually settled in San Francisco area - as I said before, but he started at the Metropolitan Opera House in NY city.
I know that Gaetano came to the US in 1899. As for the others - Ulisse came here I believe in 1913, but that is not certain. As for their brothers and sisters - I don't know yet.
I recently found a Merola family that lived in Brooklyn around the turn of the century and I think that may have been Gaetano's family, before moving to S.F. - will know soon. (family confirmation)
A lot of nothing, huh? I am just truly getting started and I have a large family to track down - LOL!!
