Looking for info. re: William Jefferson (Will)MERIWEATHER who allegedly married Malverda (aka Melverta) GIBSON about 1870 in MS (Carroll, Choctaw, or Yalobusha Counties). Malverda Gibson was the daughter of John P. Gibson, born in SC, and Margaret J. Williams, born in AL (parents married in Monroe Co., MS in 1843).

Two children resulted from the union of Will and Malverda: Lewis Jefferson Meriweather, b. approx. 1871 and Margaret Susanna Meriweather (Maggie), b. approx. 1874. Another male child was stillborn in 1880. Family legend says Will left after the birth of the third child. Maggie was my great-grandmother, and I knew her in my early years. She lived most of her life in Attala Co., MS and died in 1969.

I have found many Meriweathers on census records taken in MS during the mid-late 1800's, but no William Jefferson or Will approx. the right age.

Any help will be appreciated.
