I used ancestry.com and the new england ancestors site to find basic information and as a starting point first. This site helped me tremendously as well:

The whole site above is well worth a look. The genealogy section is the first button listed. Once in there, you can click on their pictures for more information.

The Google Books search engine also brought up alot of information. And the maps from the leventhal section of the boston public library has maps with the original "Marchant" settlers names listed on them.

Also the Gloucester city archives might be able to give you more information. They were a big help to me when I was searching another branch of my family.
