DM shows James Mercer [# 658] who died in 1778 in Nash Co, NC as s/o John, Jr (# 6c). I question this. Does anyone have documents to prove this?? Any comments??

???James is error --should be John

James was not mentioned in his father's will in Oct 1771. John said he had 6 children & named them.

In a 1784 deed Mary also named their 6 children, stating son John had died.

We assume that James was related to this family because his son, Eli (#659) chose Thomas Mercer (#672) as his guardian and they gave Eli some property when he became of age.

Note: James’s widow was remarried to Noah Chadwick before Apr 1778 when he was appointed administer
of James’s estate sale.

One possibility: James is (# 600) s/o Christopher (# 6A). That James was born later than 1735 because in 1761 Lott Maund was appointed his guardian. He was under 21 & probably under 14, since the guardian was appointed instead of him choosing one. James’s father had died and it would make sense that he moved to Edgecombe County, NC with his cousins.
