James Menzies of White Horse Close, Edinburgh
My grandfather, James Menzies, was born in Edinburgh in the late 19th century, and lived in the famous White Horse Close. He was the youngest of several children born to Peter and Catherine (neé O´Neill) Menzies. He, James, married Mary Wallace Butchard in the mid 1920's and had a son, Stanley Wallace Menzies, in September 1926 (my father). Unfortunately they split up soon after and my father lost touch with his father. All we know is that he was a cab driver in Edinburgh and played the violin. He died in the mid 1930´s from cancer. We know that James had one sister, Mary, who first married someone with the surname of Grant and they had three girls, Mary, Nellie and Kate. She was then married a second time to Alex Hunter and they had Elizabeth and Frederick. We know that most or all of James' six older brothers (Peter, Martin, William, Frank, George and John) married and had children but have no details. My father was able to do a lot of research into his mother's side of the family, the Butchards, but we have drawn a blank with the Menzies side. Would love to hear from anyone who knows anything.
