I CAN'T PROVIDE SPECIFIC INFO ON THE FAMILY YOU ASK ABOUT, BUT DO KNOW SOMETHING OF THE MENEFEE FAMILY IN THE MANCOS, COLORADO AREA. THEY WERE AMONG THE FIRST NON-NATIVE AMERICANS TO INHABIT THE VALLEY AND WERE CATTLE RANCHERS FOR MANY YEARS. THERE IS A MENEFEE MOUNTAIN JUST SOUTH OF MANCOS, AND A VEIN OF COAL DISCOVEED IN THE AREA CARRIES THE MENEFEE NAME. I'VE HEARD THAT THE COAL IS STILL BEING USED BY THE DURANGO-SILVERTON RAILWAY. I COULD FIND NO MENEFEES IN THE AREA THE LAST TIME I WAS THROUGH THERE ABOUT THREE YEARS AGO. I UNDERSTAND SOME OF THE FAMILY RELOCATED TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, BUT I HAVE NO SPECIFICS.
