Searching for parents, maternal MENDENHALL grandparents of gg grandfather John ALLEN, b.August 1811, Philadelphia. Family notes say that
John was a Mendenhall of Pennsylvania on his mother's side. This is an old Quaker family. He was left an orphan and raised by his grandmother, who died when he was 18, leaving him quite a considerable portion of her estate. His uncle and guardian in Philadelphia wanted to run the estate for him, to which he objected, and left for the west (Ohio) and never came back, although once he attempted to do so, but was prevented by an epidemic which was raging in the east."
Would appreciate any information or clues.
