Dear Bill,

I loved your story about sleeping in the hay. I have never had that pleasure.

About 30 years ago we moved from a ‘Dutch colonial’ to a ‘backward Dutch.’ The windows on the second story go in. When it rains it falls on metal flashing. This might be a pity-pad or a waterfall. At first it bothered me but now I love it. Maybe it is rather like a small tin roof?

Unfortunately the design has a flaw. With screens the water ‘holds’ at the base of the wood windows which are also indented, the wood windows rotted.

We always sleep better when it rains.
