Mary,

Your post really brought back memories for me. I still remember my telephone number Belmont 5-7578. At first it was a 2-party line and was always busy.

My father was lucky he had a job all through the Depression
but worked half days and another man worked the other half.
Company did this so all employess would have a paycheck.

We never had a car, television or went on vacation, but I made up for it when an adult. Husband and I always pay cash for our vehicles. Mother had a garden and made clothes for herself, my sister and me. As an adult, I made my own clothes for years...until Wal-Mart came along!

I lived on the Northwest side of Chicago in Logan Square.
