  of 40

The Melzer coat of arms is documented in RIETSTAP ARMORIAL GENERAL. The original description of the arms (shield) is as follows:

"EC.: AU 1 DE SA. A UNE EPEE AU NAT.; AUX 2 ET 3 DE GU. A TROIS BAR ES D'ARG.; AU 4 D'OR A UNE COURONNE DE LAURIER DE SIN."

when translated the blazon also describes the original colors of the Melzer arms as:

"Quartered:
1) black with a sword natural in color
2) and 3) red with 3 silver diagonal bars;
4) gold with a green laurel crown."

Above the shield and helmet is the crest which is described as:

"Two elephant trunks severed; the left one black on gold, the right one silver on red."
