i'll try to help all I can and in the meantime: by the dates you've got for your family it would seem to me their reason for 'boogieing' straight to CA was for the CA Gold Rush. That happened in 48'-52.The original residents were 48'ers and the rush thereafter they were referred to as 49'ers(although i'm sure you already know this). The influx of residents to CA gave it enough citizens to apply for statehood late 1850 so you probably wont find much before that ,but ElDorado County would be a place to search at it is where the original Gold Rush began. After the Gold ran out and it became a ghost town, its possible they packed up ended in Santa Clara where your ancestor Clyde was born. Sure does sound like a 'good ole' Ca mining name.lol. You try ship manifests between 1848'-52' if that was their intent. Not sure if they would have travelled across the Us. or landed by way of the Gulf to get in through Texas or Mexico.Maybe first stopping in the Carribean islands (island jumping by ship)and the rest of the way through Mexico. Just a thought.Might be able to find them on an original ship manifest or even the first poulation roll that earned Ca its statehood in '50. Check ElDorado County,County seat Placerville for some original records during the rush.
