just looked at 1900 census for Gonzales twnsp Monterrey county CA. You may already know this, but thought I would pass it on.
Henry is listed as "fred h. MELVILLE" along with all his family. next door (I assume since he is listed next) is James P. Pugh, which I believe may be Mary Beth's father. on the page before on dwelling #226 is Samuel Pugh and his family, I think may be Mary's brother. they look to be living within a few houses of one another.
Henry or Frederick, says he is born in Ohio April 1849, he is listed as a miner.
I looked in 1910, but couldn't find either henry/frederick listed at all. did find a couple of his sons, lester and henry (jr),and looking on three four pages, couldn't find a harris in the vicinity. I know that henry was there, just doesn't show up on my census. as a matter of fact, didn't find gonzales twnshp at all and I'm pretty sure he was there. so I think it may just be my census.
