CHARITON SOCIETY NOTES:

MRS. W.H. SMYTHE pleasantly entertained about forty ladies at a buffet luncheon last Thursday.

CLARENCE MELVILLE, son of MR. and MRS. N.S. MELVILLE, celebrated his twelfth birthday Tuesday evening by entertaining a number of his young friends. Games were played, delicious refreshments were served and the youngsters had a happy time. CLARENCE was the recipient of a number of useful and beautiful gifts which he will long treasure as mementoes of this joyous occasion.

The monthly meeting of the Railway Mail Association was held last Friday evening at the home of CHAS. HASS, and instead of the usual business meeting a social session was held, to which the wives and lady friends were invited. Some lively games were indulged in, in which it is said STANTON HOOPER took an active part. Dainty refreshments were served and the occasion was one of much enjoyment. There are twenty-seven members in the Chariton association but many of them were on duty and were unable to attend the meeting. Those present were MESSRS. and MESDAMES J.R. MCCLYMOND, CHAS. HASS, GRANVILLE FOSTER, MORGAN WILLIAMS, C.L. ANDREWS, STANTON HOOPER, MESDAMES T.W. JOHNSTON, ED. V. LAWRENCE, P.E. VAIL, MESSRS. FRANK FIKE, CHAS. GOLDSBERRY, WILLIS ATEN, DAVE LUCE, MISSES OLA GOLDSBERRY and MARGARET MAPLE.

MISS JESSIE MCKLVEEN's class in Cicero gave her a most pleasant surprise at her home, Tuesday evening, all of the class being present but one. As a token of their regard they presented her with a silver fork, a souvenir highly prized owing to the spirit in which it was tendered. The class brought refreshments with them and a social time was enjoyed. The members of the class present were: EDENIA KRIDELBAUGH, LAURA CURTIS, ELOISE WILSON, LOLA STILLWELL, GRACE CARROLL, CECELIA LYONS, DAISY THROCKMORTON, MARGARET JOHNSON, CLIFTON GRAY.
