We have a lot of double first names in my family and this coming from an Indian Mexican mother line with Spanish name to start off with but her children get double first names that are American names. My friend who is from Michigan his grandmother's name was Bulah Bell. Naming patterns and assuming ones ethnic identity or religion is to me not a way to go on assuming ones genealogy
There are a lot of Indian slavery records. Start reading William Byrd III books He went into the NC archives and transcribed court records that are Indian records, Indian slavery, African Slavery, free people of color records.
My family was signing petitions in these records against the mistreatment of the people of color. I know many surnames that are in these books. In these books William Byrd gives where each actual record can be found housed in the NC archives if one would want to double check his transcriptions against the original documents
