Hi J. -

My family lived in Bluefield West Virginia in Mercer County and from Charleston W. Virginia in Kanawha in the 1890s to 1950s, having moved from Franklin Co. Virginia. My grandfather used to talk about how his family or cousins had some relationship to the Hatfields and McCoys, as well as Daniel Boone. I guess that must have been the "melungeon" connections in them.

My grandfather was also a coal miner like his father and several uncles. That is what is listed on the censuses as well. His wife (my grandmoms uncle) died of the Black lung disease around 36 yrs old.
