I had family in West VA coal mining. My family was in McDowell and I think also some cousins in Mercer. I have not heard of any reservation there.

I was watching a documentary on the Appalachia. Senator Byrd was talking about the Coal miners. If I remember correctly the Indians and whites were permitted to live and coal mine together. The African's lived somewhere else and anyone who was a new immigrant that came to this country late 1800's early 1900's like Italian, German ect had their own section to live in. I was also told this by my grandmother's siblings who grew up in the coal mines. My Great grandfather and 2nd great grandfather were coal miners. Their wives were Indian from Mexico/TX and they lived with the whites.
