I have done all of the following testing:

24 Markers Y-DNA through FamilyTreeDNA
Top matches Y-DNA line:
Ireland, France, Scotland, Wales, Portugal.

My most distant ancestor on this line is Owen David Griffin 1826, Atlanta GA married Catherine Wood-daughter of John Williamson Wood 1796. Owen David Griffin reported his father born in Virginia, mother in NC. I do not know their names. I believe this line of Griffins to be Welsh. However my only two exact 24 marker matches are to surname folks Vaughn. Other matches are to Evans. This is likely due to Welsh naming practices. Suspect these families are part of original 1684 Welch Tract Settlement as I find the families (David, Evans, Owen, Vaughn, Griffith, Jones all as part of that passenger index-together at that time). Later the Wood side of this family is in Orange County, NC around 1804. Other details, our family line carries the common first name Cornelius which is mentioned in Elizabeth Caldwell Hirshman's book as suggesting Jewish or Muslim ancestry. This Griffin family is connected to the Wood, Williamson and Benge families. I find the maternal Aunts and Uncles of my ancestor Owen David Griffin attending Bethel Baptist Church in Heard County GA but have not been able to confirm which family he belongs to.

On the Gibson/Young side, I have pictures of Delilah Gibson wearing a black head covering. That family was in Onslow County NC around 1750. Both families are connected with the Primitive Baptist church. This family passes down the surname Ivey for male children as a given name.

12 Marker mtDNA through FamilyTreeDNA
Top matches mtDNA:
Morocco, France, Portugal, UK British Isle, Norway

My mother's line is Palmer/Young (Youngs on both sides) and tracks back to Marion South Carolina on the Little PeeDee around 1750. I realize I need a full spectrum test for this to get more information.

15 Marker autosomal through DNA Tribes
Top matches were (Moroccan (arab speakers), African, Portuguese)

21 Marker autosomal through DNA Tribes:

Top Native Matches:
Lille France, Portugal, Xuertes (Majorca Spain), Basque Spain, Kuwait, Egypt, Turkey, Catalonia Spain, Murcia Spain

Top Global Matches:
Rio de Janeiro Brazil, Santa Catarina Brazil, Brazil, Northern Rio de Janeiro Brazil, Carribean Coast Columbia, Sao Paulo Brazil, Minas Gerais Brazil, Roma Northwest Croatia

Top World Matches:
Mediteranean, Arabian, Northwest European, Mespotamian, Eastern European, Aegean, North African, Levantine, North India

I plan to do a full spectrum mtDNA test to further detail my results and will probably test with Decodeme or 23andme after I save up some cash to confirm the autosomal findings.

As a final note, my Native American results were 0 across the board. Our yDNA line has matched at the 12 marker level to folks in the Lumbee and African DNA project...but no 24 marker matches as yet.

My entire family tree is online at:
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&db=janoliver&recno=0

Our family carries various physical characteristics, dark hair, darker skin on some kids even still with the ability to tan very very dark, striking green eyes, high checkbones, etc.
