Hi, I am doing this backwards so please humor me folks.
I descend from Griffin and Gibson families that came to Texas about 1847...stopping first in Georgia and then Limestone Cty, Alabama. They originally came from Virginia and North Carolina. Recently doing my mtDNA, my brothers YDNA and my autosomal DNA, we came up with results very unlike most "white" folks. My most distant Griffin is Owen David Griffin, born 1826 in what would be Atlanta. He married a Catherine Elizabeth Wood. He reported his father born in Virginia, his mother born in North Carolina. I also descend from Delilah Gibson 31 Mar 1826 married William Young 29 Jul 1818 of TN. Delilah Gibson was the daughter of Richard Thomas Gibson and Mahala Meadows. Richard is son of Thomas Gibson of Onslow NC, born 1775 married to Nancy Fields. In these families we have kids with the Melungeon surname Ivey. We also have connections to the Benge family. I'm not sure how to connect the dots...but all I can say is that our DNA shows up 1. Morrocan (arab speakers) 2. African 3. Portuguese with multiple references to Sephardic jewish folks. Global current matches show the people most like us are in Brazil...? From hours and hours of research...everything seems to be pointing me here. If anyone has any clue as to origins of possibly Melungeon Griffin, Gibsons, Youngs that went to Texas, please let me know. Thanks so much!
