Hi there, LaRee....
Some time ago, you asked me:
What source confirms the original spelling was Blakemore rather than Blackmore?
Well I finally found the posting I read some two years ago, when I was brand new to anything genealogical and suddenly discovered I descended from Elmore DOUGLASS and Elizabeth BLAKEMORE.
Anyway, I was entirely new to anything genealogical, and I gave this posting more importance than it warrants.
However, it DOES exist, and I did tell you about it, so here it is, finally.LOL

Billie, if you look carefully at the original copy of the Cumberland Compact written in Nashborough TN., 1780, you will see that when Capt. John Blakemore, Sr. and his son, John Blakemore, Jr. signed (first column, 8th signature) their name they spelled it Blakemore. John Blakemore, Sr.'s son Thomas b. July 26, 1759, m. Sarah Douglas Jan. 25, 1777, also signed his name Blakemore as did his children from whom I am decended.
