Here's another posting I made last year, with a link to the messagethread: THE WELSH TRIBE - a Berber DNA marker?! http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?SAAMI::melungeon::26401.html Say, that Berber marker could indicate Saami, I remember reading news articles a few years back when scientists were fascinated that the Saami, the indiginous inhabitants of Europe had DNA that bore resemblance to the DNA of the Berbers. Some people presume that many of the settlers in "New Sweden" were actually Saami who had settled around Stockholm for the winter months, and were forcibly shipped to New Sweden to do forestry jobs. I read somewhere online that the Saami (or Sami) of Lapland got along very well with the American Indians. Also, I recall reading somewhere online that scientists were very surprised when they did DNA studies of American Indians in the midwest to find ANCIENT DNA markers from the Saami of northern Scandinavia. http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?SAAMI::melungeon::26401.html Notify Administrator about this message?
