I've recently learned that there is a huge number of variant spellings for the huguenot settlement in Virginia of Manikin Town -- which is crucial to know, particularly for searches of out-of-copyright old books, now in digital format at http://books.google.com

"manikin town"
"mannikin town"
"manakin town"
"mannakin town"
mannikintown
manikintown
mannakintown
manakintown
