Maranda, I hate to say it publicly, but since there's no way of emailing you privately, the answer to your question "when did the Quaker Boone family become Jews?", is basically "when Hirschman wrote it in her book". You can read Hirschman's book for yourself, but as someone who's spent well over a decade researching the families that were called "Melungeons" (by others), her book has VERY LITTLE to do with such families, and I seriously doubt if there is any factual information on Jewish families there either. I suggest Pat Spurlock Elder's book "Melungeons - Examining An Appalachian Legend".
