With his punctured ego glaringly exposed, Tim Hashaw opined: "Her reductionist theory about Melungeons is that they were just common everyday mixed folks who appeared in late colonial America. Lucy hates thinking about any evidence beyond that. And she resents anyone else thinking about evidence beyond that also."

By simply questioning this one aspect of the speculative theory on which you based your two books, my intent was not hurting your feelings. As with other theorists, I was hoping only to draw sober attention to the known usage of the exonym "melungeon." The potential history you, Evelyn Orr and the other Gowen Foundation researchers surmised is very interesting. You are, however, only misleading yourself suggesting that I have ever shied away from "thinking" on any of the fanciful notions conjured up to promote the concept of mystery ... despite ample clarity dispelling mystery provided through simple historical deduction. The well documented history of complexion related bias throughout America is not from my imagination; it is a fact.
