"If we all agree with this evaluation pertaining to fpc ancestries referenced by complexion related terms such "melungeon", why all the competition between speculative theories extending back beyond the point where documentation evaporates in the backcountry Amerind homelands following the Indian wars?" The reality is that there's no way to avoid speculation and the best we can do is theory. Otherwise you're expounding the "shrouded in mystery" stuff that you seem to despise. But Demarce, Elder, Goins, etc have shown that there is a wealth of documenation that shows clear patterns and corroborates particular theories. Ironically, some of that evidence can be corroborative to differing theories. I will say here that there is no particular Melungeon origin theory that I embrace fully at this point, though I do lean towards a few points that make more sense in my view. And yes, Larry, those points involve the employment of historical context as much as anything. But right now, I'd just like to trace my particular families pre-Newmans Ridge! "Though most of the earlier data inspires clearly speculative theory, did not Hashaw and Heinegg and DeMarce and Lipsey all indicate clearly the potential that all the diverse historic context revealed within their speculations may have contributed to the developement of multi-ethnic renegade enclaves later "discovered" by the advancing Christian colonists?" I'm not sure what you mean, what "potential"? The views of the people you mentioned werent always complimentary to each other's. You might as well include Kennedy in there, too, as his viewpoint mirrors that analysis. Notify Administrator about this message?
