Joanne Pezzullo,

Of course I'm certain there was never such a thing as a "melungeon" other than in the imaginations of children raised during an era when parents used the complexion related exonym. The reference to a "mongrel ticket" was clearly an attempt to denigrate those authoring the letter endorsing "the restoration of the Missouri Compromise." What better evidences a denigrating usage than "six worthless and degraded locofocos (supposing they could be any such)"? Are you totally devoid of logic? You're own findings have assured my conclusion repeatedly.
