Joanne Pezzullo, Of course I'm certain there was never such a thing as a "melungeon" other than in the imaginations of children raised during an era when parents used the complexion related exonym. The reference to a "mongrel ticket" was clearly an attempt to denigrate those authoring the letter endorsing "the restoration of the Missouri Compromise." What better evidences a denigrating usage than "six worthless and degraded locofocos (supposing they could be any such)"? Are you totally devoid of logic? You're own findings have assured my conclusion repeatedly. Lucy Suder Notify Administrator about this message?
