Joanne Pezzullo,

In fact, this "Celebrated Melungeon Court Case" further verifies the typical usage of "melungeon" to be as a denigrating exonym informed only by the prevalent complexion related attitudes of the era. The anecdotal inferences contained in the testimony do not validates spurious conclusions relevant to Portuguese ancestry.
