Thanks -- I think there are many good researchers out there, unfortunately some have agendas and that is what makes it hard on everyone else.

Governor Johnson found Gideon Gibson was not a "Negro" -- or a slave -- In 1775 the court in Louisa County, Va., ruled that Gideon Gibson, grandson of Gibby Gibson was not a "Mulatto" - in 1812 the court decided that Thomas Hagans was “of Portuguese descent” and therefore not subject to the tax.......John Griffin was released from being placed on the Negro list in 1869 in Kentucky and "hereafter he will be listed as a whiteman, proof being made to the satisfaction of the court that he was of Portugee descent instead of African decent." etc., etc., etc.

These records and many like them are tossed aside, dismissed, rejected. They are in direct conflict of a researcher's agenda -- yet those same researchers will present a court record -- or worse yet *quote* what someone with 'letters after their name' wrote -- that says a family was a 'mulatto' and expect you to believe it.

There are literally dozens and dozens of court and other records claiming these people were Portuguese -- all presented by your *family researcher* - - yet to my knowledge not one person is even looking for Portuguese court records.

Joanne
