I have been reading Children of Perdition, a 2006 publication written by Tim Hashaw in which he quite thoroughly exposes the fallacious assumptions of the poetess, Will Allen Dromgoole, in chapter seven. I find Hashaw's perspective ably sourced even though he uses the term "melungeon" as it was use by the nineteenth century racists who seemingly devised the colloquial term. Also the author of The Birth of Black America: The First African Americans and the Pursuit of Freedom at Jamestown, Hashaw seems quite at ease with all the ethnic, social and cultural diversity associated with the ancestries included in his book.
