Carribean Indians in Virginia

There are several recorded instances of Carrib Indians being brought to Virginia. They only come to light when a legal issue forces the generation of a written record.

In 2000 the Melungeon DNA study was performed. A sample was taken from me as a curiosity. My DNA was not, I repeat not included in the study results. As far as I know mine was the only sample taken from a family line that had neither lived in Tennessee nor been a part of the Melungeon saga.

My DNA differred form any of the other sample in that in addition to markers consistent with a North American Indian population, my sample contained markers consistent with those found in a Carribean Indian population. It is significant that these markers were found in no samples taken from Melungeon people.
