Jeannie

I didn't mean to say that 'all' Melungeons were Portuguese. When Dromgoole wrote her articles about the 'four branches' of the Melungeons she said Vardy Collins was an Indian -- never said he was Portuguese --although he was said to be the 'head and source' of the Melungeons.

She never said the Gibson were Portuguese either, she said the Portuguese came from the 'Denham'

From my research it appears the Melungeons came from the NC/SC border along the Peedee River to East Tennesse where they mixed with the 'friendly Indians'-- The Gibson, Collins, Bunch etc. Joanne
