Melungeon Forum

I have asked this very same question many times. I have never received an opinion. I have had people quote the theories and paste old articles. I have seen arguments about who and what they were.
Just because somebody says they were mixed but doesn't say they were Indians doesn't mean they weren't Indians. It just means that they didn't say they were. It doesn't mean they were either ,so that is of no value in determining who they were.
My families were Gipson/Gibson,Nichols and Perkins. They are among the people some call the Melungeons. I have decided that I will believe what my ancestors said they were. If we go by what people called themselves then my people are Native American and white. My families never told us they were Melungeon or Portuguese. They said they were Indian and white. It wasn't until I started researching on the internet that I was told my family was melungeon.
