DR. chudacuff who studied Bechets Syndrome in Thailand had this to say.
The following comes from our high risk consultation for our patient with Behcet's disease, who had two pregnancies with us:
"Behcet's disease is a chronic, multisystem disease characterized by oral and genital ulcers, arthritis, cutaneous lesions, and ocular, gastrointestinal and neurological manifestations. It was first [described] by the [Turkish dermatologist,] Dr. Hulusi Behcet in 1937 as "recurrent oral aphthous, ulcers, genitalulcers and 'hypopyon-uveitis' ".
The prevalence of Behcet's disease is higher in the Middle East and Japan, where it is approximately 1:1000. The geographic distribution of this high prevalence rate follows what is know as The Silk Route. Turkey, Korea, China and Iraq make up a majority of the silk route countries and have the highest incidence of this disease. Behcet's disease is far less common in the United States, Northern Europe and the UK. The main age of onset ranges from the mid-20's to the fourth decade, with a slightly male-t0-female ratio."
...Given the lack of any pathognomonic laboratory test, clinical criteria are used to make the diagnosis of Behcet's disease. END
This is not restricted to Turkey but originates in Korea and Japan which made its way to the middle east by the old Silk route.
Turkey Turkey Turkey, aways being taken out the true context.
It was simply a a Turkish DR that made the 1st diagnosis thats all.
Thereyou can now eliminate Turkey ,the Mediterranean as well.
As far as any Melungeon population in regards to having either perhaps they are not Melungeons. But other populations such as the Gyptsy. ChicannerysFaw s from Scotland.
Such as little Egypt familes of Scotland being sur names like Kennedy Faw ect
Perhaps these groups have mistakely thought They were part of the Indians Melungeons or are attmpting to reclassify themselves under the heading of Melungeon.
