You have so many falsehoods and inaccuracies I will attempt to answer them all. But I will need to do so in 2 responses.

VANCE.... Number one there are many people who filed Cherokee applications who were called Melungeons.
reply --
I am confused as to who you think is Melungeon, Joanne. If you look up all the state recognized tribes in North Carolina and Virginia, you will see the SAME surnames associated with them as you see in SW Va, E Ky, and NE Tn, but you don't say these families are related, and you don't call them "Melungeon". Yet when you see surnames that are NOT associated with the Cherokee at all and never have been, there being no real connection, you claim these people were "Melungeon" and Cherokee both. You can't have it both ways. I suggest you research the state recognized tribes in Va and NC and you might find the origin of the Melungeons.
Joanne, there were many who filed Cherokee applications. there were 200 Sizemore's alone! They were REJECTED!! Their claims were studied, their applications were scrutinized, and it was PROVEN that they did NOT provide enough evidence of Cherokee ancestors! That battle has been over for 100 years! The Sizemore's said (on their applications) that their earliest ancestors came from a swamp on the NC/Va border (this is a place the Cherokee never lived). Someone just yesterday sent me email of a map of the Saponi/Nottaway's lands on the border of NC/Va about the year 1715. There were several parts of that old map called the "Jones Swamp" or "Creek Swamp" (I forget the real name of the swamps listed on that map). Later these elders of the Sizemore clan said their ancestors went to live with the Catawba before going to their home in Appalachia where they were living at the time of the Guion-miller rolls. Actual historical records of the Saponi (who were close allies of the Catawba) ALSO say many of them went to live with the Catawba . . .
This is evidence (not proof) of a connection to those Virginia tribes called "Tributary Tribes" in early Virginia records going back generations. These relations of the Catawba were also natural historical enemies of the Cherokee, so finding them on the frontier fighting the makes sense. hat's right -- many of these families FOUGHT AGAINST THE CHEROKEE from the 1770s to the 1790s, and the Cherokee KNOW IT! These state recognized tribes in Va and NC used such old Va/NC records to obtain the status of a state recognized Indian tribe.
Joanne said --
There are also many of these same people who were recognized as CHEROKEE INDIANS living AS INDIANS together in an INDIAN TOWN in Magoffin Co., Ky.
reply --
These people have been shown in Carlson's dissertation to have been SAPONI, most likely, NOT Cherokee -- and you know that! All except the Cole's who are ALSO on the rejected rolls. AND they were rejected by the North Carolina Cherokee, NOT the Oklahoma Cherokee.
Joanne said --
But because their ancestors hid in the hills rather than being on a roll they were rejected. That does not negate their DNA -- what part of that don't you understand?
reply --
They DID NOT hide anywhere, Joanne! They were in PLAIN SIGHT! They are ON the census records, aren't they? Aren't they on land records, tax lists, and mentioned in the legal system records! When were they in hiding? The YEAR they migrated from NE Tn to Magoffin county is recorded! The year they came from NE Tn is often recorded! We know these families did NOT move there from the Cherokee Nation but in most cases from Va or NC! Where and when did they hide?
Joanne said --
I explained to you several times the Lawson DNA came back Q3 -- that means they are INDIAN --- and they filed Cherokee applications but were denied -- again because their ancestors lived on Newman's Ridge and were not on 'THE ROLLS' -- it does not mean they WERE NOT Cherokee....
reply --
I don't recall that. I know Indian halpotypes are A, B, C, D, and X. Where do you get "Q3" is American Indian? Can you provide a website explaining this is American Indian? thanks.
