Hi Guys!
Several years ago, an INFORMAL and certainly unscientific blood group study was taken from a very few folks who consider that they have Melungeon ancestry. AGAIN, this is NOT SCIENTIFIC. The results were as follows:

A + 37% 33.6%
A- 6% 12.8%
AB + 4% 2.4%
AB - 1% 1.8%
B + 10% 7.3 %
B - 2% 0.0%
O + 37% 28.1%
0- 6% 14.0%
The study sample was really too small to be of much value. I did find it interesting! :-)

What is the most common blood type?
The approximate distribution of blood types in the US population is as follows. Distribution may be different for specific racial and ethnic groups:
0       Rh-positive       38 percent
0       Rh-negative       7 percent
A       Rh-positive       34 percent
A       Rh-negative       6 percent
B       Rh-positive       9 percent
B       Rh-negative       2 percent
AB       Rh-positive       3 percent
AB       Rh-negative       1 percent
In an emergency, anyone can receive type O Red Blood Cells, and type AB individuals can receive Red Blood Cells of any ABO type. Therefore, people with type O blood are known as “universal donors” and those with type AB blood are known as “universal recipients.” In addition, AB Plasma donors can give to all blood types.
