My husband's family is from Lewis G Melton who was in Wayne Co, MO in the 1880 census. Looking at the census records he is the son of Phillip.
1800 Anson, NC, p 240, Philip Melton, Males: 1->under 10 (John age 3), 1->16-25 (Philip age 25); Females: 1->under 10 (F1?), 1->16-25 (Wife).
1810 Haven't found Phillip Melton in this one either. TN is missing all census schedules except Rutherford and Grainger Counties so if he's there in another county...
1820 Bedford, TN, p 13, Philip Melton, 320010-30010 Males: 3->under 10 (Wilson age 1, Theron age 7, David age 9), 2->10-15 (M1, M2 or maybe William age 20?, John age 23? - ages are off - possibly the wrong box was checked?), 1->26-44 (Phillip age 45); Females: 3->under 10 (F2?, F3?, F4?), 1->26-44 (Wife).
1830 Wayne, TN, p 307, Philip Melton, Males: 1-> under 5 (?), 1->5-10 (Lewis G age 9), 2->10-15 (Wilson age 11, ?), 1->15-20 (Theron age 17), 1->20-30 (?), 1->40-50 (Phillip age 55); Females: 1->10-15 (F2?), 1->20-30 (F3?), 1->40-50 (Wife); Total 10 Note: John, William, and David Melton move out into their own housholds. This looks like there may be another family living with them.
