If your ancestor Samuel Pope MELOY is the son of James and Mary (POPE) MELOY, then we are cousins related through the POPE line. Mary (POPE) MELOY was the sister of Phebe (POPE) ULREY, my 3-greats grandmother, making Mary my "aunt" and Samuel Pope MELOY a "cousin." Both were daughters of Samuel and Phebe (LEE) POPE. Samuel POPE was born in NY, but his parents are unknown. Phebe LEE was the daughter of William LEE and perhaps a Catherine MKU. William LEE had many children and lots of researchers are working on his lines.
I saw the name "Samuel Pope MELOY" on a land plat extract on the Shelby Co. IN website, and I assume from the name alone that he is almost certainly Samuel POPE's grandson—just do not have proof. Do you have proof that he is a son of James MELOY and/or why do you think his mother's name was Mary? I do not have a lot of information on other descendants of Samuel POPE, other than my direct line, but I am willing to share.
The purpose of the query was to determine how James MELOY might have been related to Patrick MELOY. I like to find at least the parents of all of my "inlaws."
Sherry
