Hi Jesse.

Thank you for the feedback. I've heard the Palomar story and the other things related to John Mellish's involvement with astronomy. Last year, Sky and Telescope published an article about him that was interesting. And way back in the late 70s or early 80s the Wisconsin Journal did a somewhat longer feature article about him and his astronomy career.

I would be interested in seeing anything you have on him though. Particularly his ancestory since that is where I know the least about him. But you may surprise me and have something interesting about John Mellish himself that I was unaware of.

Most of what I know has been gleaned from the published articles on him and from what my grandmother and mother,
Kathy [Ellis] Kamberg, have told me about him. When my mom was a kid in southern California, apparently she was one of John Mellish's favorite grandkids because she tells me that he often took her out into the desert where they would hunt for semi-precious stones. To this day, my mother is an avid rockhound. As am I, having grown up with my mother taking us to various places to hunt for pretty rocks like Her Grandfather Mellish had done with her.
