Melling's of Wigan, Lancashire, England

Hi everyone. I am trying to break this brickwall I have on my Melling side. My JOHN MELLING was born about 1819 in Wigan, Lancashire, ENGLAND. He was convicted as a young man about 20 years of age on April 29, 1839 through the courts of Wigan Trials. He was convicted for stealing a bottle of British Brandy on the 3rd April 1839. The brandy was the property of Mr. William Cox, of the Goolden Lion, Wallgate. John's prisoner number: 407730. He was deported to Australia and was allowed to remain in the District of Port Maquarie, New South Wales, AUSTRALIA.

His parents are unknown as they did not appear on his death cert, nor marriage cert, nor conviction records or newspaper articles from Wigan.

I feel that the only way I will find a matching family is if someone knows that they had a John Melling born around 1819 and had a conviction or their John Melling dropped off without a trace.

This one is also a hard one as there are over 6 John melling's born in Wigan for the year 1819.

Hope someone out there is able to help.

Regards

Troy - Australia
